What Are Hemorrhoids?
What are Internal and External Hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are enlarged blood vessels located inside or outside the anus. There is the strong possibility that you have hemorrhoids if you are experiencing itching in the anal area, a protruding lump, bleeding during a bowel movement or localized pain. There are two variations of hemorrhoids:
Internal hemorrhoids
Occur inside the rectum below the anus lining. If they are ruptured which usually happens from bowel movements, bleeding will occur. Read more about internal hemorrhoids ►
External hemorrhoids
Develop near the anus, they are covered by a thin layer of skin. Bleeding can occur if they are ruptured.
Other conditions such as anal fissures are often incorrectly associated with hemorrhoids. Bleeding could be as a result of this condition and treatment should be specific to that condition. Read more about external hemorrhoids ►
It is estimated that 10,000,000 Americans between the ages of 35 and 65 suffer from this condition and that as much as 80% of Americans will experience hemorrhoids at least once in their lives.
Hemorrhoids afflict both men and women, and although not as common, may be found in children as well. For the majority who have hemorrhoids, there is a very high probability that the condition will recur.
The symptoms of hemorrhoids can be unpleasant even for mild conditions. Hemorrhoids are basically a varicose vein in the anal area. It is safe to say that people who have a history of varicose veins in the family are more at risk for hemorrhoids. Left untreated, a mild condition can progress to a severe episode in just a few hours. While doctors usually do not consider hemorrhoids to be a serious condition, in their worst form they can lead to extreme blood loss, and tend towards infection, both of which in rare cases can be life-threatening.
Suffice it to say for anyone who has suffered with the condition, it is not something you want to endure. Hemorrhoids can be internal, external or both. In the extreme case, sometimes referred to as (Stage 4 Hemorrhoids), the hemorrhoid can become thrombosed.
Some of the factors pertaining to Hemorrhoid problems may relate to genetic conditions, such as poor circulation or weak development of anal musculature and the walls of the anus. While probably only a small percentage of people fall in this category, they may be resigned to a lifetime of preventative measures and continuing treatment for Hemorrhoids. For many people, the idea of looking for a natural approach to Hemorrhoid treatment may be predicated on the notion that surgery may not be fun. Still others may have heard some of the horror stories of suffering through multiple surgeries only to see Hemorrhoids return time and time again. There is not a cure for this condition. Elevating one’s health status through diet and immunity is sure to bring long term benefit for future suffering. Also, people must have had some successful ways of naturally dealing with Hemorrhoids before the dawn of modern medicine. Perhaps some of the wisdom regarding this affliction was lost through the ages or with the birth of modern medicine.
Probably the best natural approach lies with a natural remedy that uses an herbal preparation or formula. If you think you have Hemorrhoids but lack a diagnosis, we recommend a visit to your doctor for a confirmation of a Hemorrhoids diagnosis. Many serious maladies have the same symptoms as internal Hemorrhoids such as colon or rectal cancer, so a firm diagnosis is always prudent. If your doctor has diagnosed Hemorrhoids, it would be wise to survey your options starting with the natural approach. Some of the most often prescribed topical foams or ointments creams or suppositories deserve a second look. Many do not bring more than temporary relief while others may prolong your agony.
Exploring the natural approach is our focus at Western Herbal and Nutrition. Natural Hemorrhoids treatments would also extend to the area of exercise and nutrition. A proper diet will support your efforts to minimize suffering and promote circulatory health. Fiber is important and essential for keeping regular bowel movements. Good exercise will promote vascular health and lessen future attacks. You might consider looking at workout routines that focus on improving anal musculature. Preventing constipation through eating a proper diet is also a key area of focus for many.
